Jim
Newberry has been interested in public welfare issues since he was a student
at the University of Texas in the 1980’s. He served on the
Legislative Staff of a prominent U.S. Senator and has been the Campaign
Manager or the Finance Director in three prominent congressional campaigns
in Texas and Illinois.
Jim
learned how to write successful direct mail copy while an Account Executive
for Fundraising Strategies in the late 1980’s. He is an award-winning
writer who has worked at several local direct mail firms where he has built
a reputation for writing strong, creative copy. Jim recently won
a Pollie Award for excellence from the American Association of
Political Consultants. But he is probably best known for his work in producing
the successful Which Washington Does He Represent? TV ad campaign
against Speaker of the House Tom Foley in 1994.
Jim
and his wife Cindy have one son, Jonathan, an up and coming basketball
player. Cindy operates Corgi Glen Farm, a medium-sized horse stable
in Poolesville, MD. Jim is active in horse welfare issues and
has served as the Finance Director for the American Horse Defense Fund. He
also has a deep interest in American and military history, card games,
and attending his son’s basketball games.
